Playing recommandation
If you play or original SS:TSE V1.07. I recommand to play the Original Edition that contains new enemies.
If you want to play the maps on SS:TSE V1.10 or on any mods for SS:TSE V1.07 - you must play the Vanilla Edition because third party entities can not be supported anywhere else than original SS:TSE V1.07 because of dependencies related to EntitiesMP.dll from V1.07.
About 'Vanilla' (TSE - No Extra DLLs)
Vanilla Edition is an edition without the custom enemies.. I had the idea of making it so it is compatible not only with HL-IM (Half-Life Immersion Mod), but also Parse Error, Serious Violence, and any other custom mod running under TSE 1.07 engine.
Why this edition?
Indeed, custom content from extra DLL are not compatible in mods or other versions of Serious Sam. Insomnium was initially built in SS:TSE V1.07 using extra DLL content (AMIC 'Advanced Monster & Item Classes' by Heming_Hitrowski - JAREP01_001bMP.dll and HeadmanAlphaHDMP.dll by Rakanishu). This version allows the players to play Insomnium in any mod and any other version of Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. The changes are that new enemies have been replaced by original TSE enemies and boss collision box has been replaced by a invisible destroy-able moving brush.
Known issues
- Killing a Harpy before the she drops the carried enemy will make a broken kill. The carried enemy won't be counted as a kill. Though, if you wait for it to be dropped, it will.
- If the level is laggy, try turning OFF or turning to SIMPLE the Lens Flare options. Options -> Graphic Options -> Graphic Options -> Lens Flare Effects
- Being killed with the Cannon walker won't make you respawn in place.
- Alert heavy level! The level might crash if you try to change texture settings while playing. Also level can crash if you reload from savegame (after dying), especially on weaker computers. You can try playing with "compressed" texture quality since some models use high resolution (1024x1024 texture quality on modelson such old engine). I may update the levels with less heavy textures someday.
